For anyone looking for car loans, but continue to be challenged by creditors that are disinclined to endorse your application, consider collecting records that verify that you're a low risk credit individual. This may consist of advantageous payment reports on previous car loans or credit card providers, not to mention paycheck slips from a consistent employer.

Supermodels and Superstars

Once each year, our fashion magazines dedicate an issue titled ‘The Age Issue’ or ‘The Shape Issue’ to prove how politically correct they are besides being in tune with the minds of ‘real women’. I don’t challenge their tokenism often, especially when one agrees that the very moot of fashion is to create desire, an aspiration.

But a head-turner this January is Vogue India’s simply brilliant cover. It has on it Mehr Jessia, India’s last and arguably only ‘supermodel’, looking so fine. She’s dressed like a Christian bride, in a white gauze and lace corset dress by Marchesa. Her hair flies from the wind of the studio fan. She appears to wear no makeup or jewellery. And she looks...

A Review of "Spend Visibility: An Implementation Guide"

Now that the holiday season is behind us, I am finally starting to get caught up on some industry publications that have hit the market recently. Of course, Managing Indirect Spend, Enhancing Profitability Through Strategic Sourcing should be on everyones reading list… but I digress. No, the real thing I wanted to talk about today was the recent FREE whitepaper Spend Visibility: An Implementation Guide (pdf), compliments of Michael Lamoureux, PhD (the doctor) and Bernard Gunther; sponsored by Lexington Analytics.

So admittedly, this PDF whitepaper has been sitting on my virtual desk for over a month now, as it is a very comprehensive (in other words, long) 134 pages. In fact,...

Four employees fired in Kalashnikov firewood case

Four people have been sacked from a gun factory in central Russia after 79 Kalashnikov rifles went missing.

The missing guns were unwittingly bought by a local resident. He purchased several wooden boxes from a passing truck as firewood. When he opened them, he came across a stash of AK-47s and magazines.

The purchase was a real bargain, as the 57-year-old paid a modest 500 rubles [about $16] for the boxes. Apart from the Kalashnikov rifles, the boxes were filled with various Kalashnikov accessories and 253 magazines.

The boxes were supposed to have been taken to a recycling plant, but the enterprising truck driver decided to sell them instead.

The driver who reportedly...

NewsLifeMedia chief executive quits

Sandra Hook has quit her role as chief executive of NewsLifeMedia, the magazine arm of News Limited.

Hook recently led the companys rebranding from News Magazines to NewsLifeMedia in November last year.

After nearly eight years with the business, through its evolution from FPC Magazines through News Magazines and now NewsLifeMedia, I have decided after a Christmas break it is time to look for a new challenge, Hook said.

I am proud of what we have achieved in that time, building Australias third largest magazine publisher, launching new digital brands and recently repositioning and rebranding the company as NewsLifeMedia.

I leave the business transformed from...

Tablet as Time Machine: Old Magazine Issues Finding New Life on the iPad

Hearst and other magazine publishers are blurring the line between past and present — and reaping the rewards.

Theres an iceberg-like quality to magazines: The peek of content thats visible above the surface — sitting on the newsstand, promoted on the website — is only a tiny fraction of the content they have to offer in total. This is both frustrating (all that information, just sitting there!) and fantastic (all that information, just sitting there!). And it makes the following stat, via an AdWeek report, intriguing:

At Hearst Magazines, 30 percent of the single copies sold on tablets are back issues.

Whoa. Thirty percent!...

Future US promotes new head for video game magazines

Ailing magazine publisher Future US has promoted Ursula Morgan, a 15-year veteran with the company, to Media vice president, where she will oversee all of its gaming properties like Official Xbox Magazine and Nintendo Power.

The appointment comes during a difficult time for parent company Future plc as it struggles to recover from the last fiscal years losses of £11.8 million ($18.4 million), and from the resignations of two key executives in October, including its former CEO Stevie Spring.

Looking to bring its US branch back into profitability, Future plc announced plans to merge its US and UK operations (the latter of which publishes British game magazines Edge, Official Nintendo...

Today’s Women Are Decisive, Ambitious and Stressed

I am woman and if you hear me roar, its probably because Im at the overload point and theres still grocery shopping to be done, dinner to be made and bills to be paid. Grrr.

In this, I am not alone. Look at this chart from a new survey by Hearst Magazines and Fleishman-Hillard International Communications.

The women surveyed. . .

Well, two out of three aint bad. The numbers come from part four of the Women, Power and Money series of reports. This one is called Game-Changers: Women Defining the New American Marketplace.

What they found overall is that women feel responsible for the well-being of their families. That need to help often extends out to their co-workers...
